Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez Star in Animated Film ‘Not Alone’

Timothée Chalamet has returned to work after cheering for the New York Knicks during their playoff run. The renowned actor, who has received four Oscar nominations, is teaming up with Selena Gomez for a new project. The duo will lead the upcoming Illumination animated movie “Not Alone,” which is set for release in 2027.

In this Universal Studios film, Chalamet takes on the role of Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic living a solitary life. Gomez, formerly a Disney star, will portray Fran, a talented astro-botanist working on the world’s first plant-fueled rocket, as reported by Deadline. The film’s announcement was made during the Annecy Film Festival in France.

The movie’s synopsis states: “When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance. Life becomes more complicated when three aliens—tiny, unruly, and adorable—take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly, and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.”

Eric Guillon, co-director of “Despicable Me 3,” is directing the film. The announcement was met with much enthusiasm, though some fans were surprised by the unexpected pairing. One fan commented, “Insane pairing we all never expected.” Another remarked, “Illumination doing a movie with those two is a pretty unexpected combination.” Yet another fan joked, “Timothée somehow ends up in every major conversation.”

Social media users shared their excitement about the project. A commenter stated, “This plot sounds so chaotic and cute at the same time, I’m seated!” However, another user referenced a rumored past incident involving Kylie Jenner and Gomez, noting, “This is actually so exciting! I love seeing Selena act in anything but I don’t think Kylie Jenner will like him working with her. Because at that awards show Selena wanted to take a pic with him and Kylie wasn’t okay with that supposedly, but who really knows!”

This rumor originated during the 2024 Golden Globes Awards, where it was speculated that Gomez wanted to take a picture with Chalamet, but Jenner supposedly did not allow it. Nonetheless, in an interview with TMZ, Chalamet confirmed he was on good terms with Gomez, saying, “Yeah, of course.” When asked if his girlfriend had any issues with Gomez, he responded, “No… They’re good.” Whether Gomez wanted a picture with Chalamet remains a topic of discussion. What is certain is that they will be prominently featured together in the upcoming film.
