Giannis Antetokounmpo is heading to the Miami Heat following a significant trade reported late Monday night. The swap sends Antetokounmpo along with forward Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks to Miami. In return, the Bucks receive Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round draft picks, one pick swap, and one second-round pick, as per ESPN.
Before the trade became public, Antetokounmpo posted a strong message on social media at 5:56 p.m. Monday, stating, “GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout.” This post indicated that he anticipated the trade and seems prepared for the next phase of his career. Antetokounmpo, who played a crucial role in the Bucks’ 2021 NBA Finals win, had reportedly experienced growing tension with the team, leading to this move to South Beach.
Throughout his 13-year career, Antetokounmpo has garnered accolades, including two MVP awards and the Defensive Player of the Year honor. He has consistently been named to the All-NBA first team over the past seven seasons. In the 2025-26 season, he averaged 27.6 points per game. For the three previous seasons, he averaged at least 30.4 points per game.
In Miami, Antetokounmpo might team up with Heat star Bam Adebayo and guard Norman Powell, depending on if the team re-signs Powell, who will become an unrestricted free agent. Last season, Adebayo averaged 20.1 points per game, which included an impressive 83-point game on March 11 against the Bucks. Powell led the Heat with 21.7 points per game as Miami ended the season with a 43-39 record, failing to make the playoffs.
The Bucks had a disappointing season, finishing 32-50, with Antetokounmpo playing only 36 games, the fewest in his career, and averaging 28.9 minutes per game, his lowest since his rookie year. Now, Antetokounmpo aims to revitalize his career and get back to winning ways with the Heat, the team that last won a championship in 2013.
