Amanda Powell traveled over a thousand miles from Little Rock, Arkansas to New York City. Her destination was the rumored wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. She came with two friends to celebrate the couple’s union. We came just to celebrate Taylor’s wedding and congratulate her on her big day,
Powell said.
Powell wasn’t alone in her excitement. Many Taylor Swift fans and curious onlookers gathered in New York on Thursday. They were eager to witness what many believe is the wedding of the century. Kristen Donohue, a Swift fan, remarked, The couple are the king and queen of America.
She visited the area around Madison Square Garden during her lunch break with a fellow fan.
A law enforcement official confirmed the wedding details to The Associated Press. Swift and Kelce’s wedding will occur at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, with a smaller rehearsal dinner on Thursday. Official statements have not verified the event date, but the timing aligns with Fourth of July and World Cup festivities. Swift’s representative has not responded to inquiries.
By 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, approximately 100 guests were expected at the venue. This was during high temperatures nearing triple digits. The event was set as a pre-party celebration, according to a city permit obtained by The AP. Tight security was present as black SUVs dropped off guests at a large tent, leading into the arena via a tented path.
Fans frequented midtown Manhattan, scouting the scene long before any guests arrived. Equipment deliveries were seen throughout the week, but much remained concealed. Barricades lined the arena’s perimeter, maintaining security. Madison Square Garden, next to New York Penn Station, naturally saw increased activity on this significant day.
Rachel Latchford and Linda Solano from Pennsylvania joined the throngs in NYC. They planned to see a Broadway show but couldn’t resist the wedding buzz. We’re going to the wedding, baby,
Solano joked while on a FaceTime call. Latchford felt secure with the visible police presence. She noted it coincided with Fourth of July security across the city.
A large tent was erected on 31st Street by an arena entrance. Tarps shielded the walkway, ensuring privacy for the couple and guests upon arrival and exit. At 5 p.m., staff hung pink curtains around glass windows inside. By 5:30 p.m., 31st Street was closed to pedestrians between 7th and 8th avenues. Disappointed fans loitered around the police-established barricades, hoping for a glimpse of activity.
The anticipation among fans was palpable. Many hoped to spot decorations or hints of the festivities inside the arena. However, the primary motivation was support for Swift. She’s just so important in everyone’s life,
noted Alyssa Heinen outside the arena. We grew up with Taylor Swift, and just seeing her now find love is inspiring to so many women. It’s so nice to see her happy.
Echoing that sentiment was Brittany McCusker. It’s really amazing that they don’t have to broadcast anything, they can have it private. I respect that, but it’s a bummer that we don’t see it,
she said while awaiting any signs of the couple.
