Gonçalo Ramos scored the decisive goal for Portugal in stoppage time, heading in a pass from Rafael Leao, during their World Cup match against Croatia. Cristiano Ronaldo, who had previously tied the game with a penalty kick, observed the winning goal from the bench.
Ronaldo scored in the 68th minute, equalizing the match with his first World Cup knockout-stage goal. Despite his contribution, Ramos became the hero with the match-winning goal. The game concluded controversially when a potential 2-2 equalizer by Croatia was disallowed due to an offside call on Mario Pašalić, confirmed by VAR. This decision led to protests from Croatian fans, who threw bottles onto the field.
Croatia initially took the lead in the 53rd minute when Ivan Perisic netted a goal from a Josip Sanisic cross. Portugal’s victory means they will face Spain in the Round of 16 on Monday. Luka Modrić, who previously led Croatia to second- and third-place World Cup finishes in 2018 and 2022, saw his team’s efforts fall short this time.
