On Saturday night, a shooting in Coney Island, Brooklyn left eight people injured, including two young boys, amidst large crowds gathered for a Fourth of July fireworks display. The incident took place at 10:37 p.m. near 2929 West 31st Street, close to Surf Avenue and the Coney Island boardwalk, following the fireworks show that commenced around 10 p.m.
According to the police, the victims ranged in age from 6 to 37 years. A 21-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot in the chest and remained in critical condition by early Sunday. Among the injured, there were four boys aged six, seven, 12, and 14. The seven-year-old suffered gunshot wounds to both legs, while the six-year-old was shot in the abdomen. All injured individuals are expected to recover.
The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown. Police have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made at this time.
