Fireworks Mishap at BMO Stadium Follows Angel City FC Win
A fireworks show after the Angel City FC match at BMO Stadium went wrong, sending flares into the stands and causing fans to flee. The team had just beaten the Orlando Pride 2-0 after a monthlong break.
During the pyrotechnic display, sparks filled the pitch with smoke. A mishap in the finale sent fireworks horizontally into the stands, prompting a rapid fan response. Jade Greenhut, a season ticket-holder, recorded the incident from her seat. Her video caught the moment when fireworks shot toward the Angel City team bench and into the stands, creating panic.
A club spokesperson confirmed there were no reports of serious injuries. “A third party vendor was hired to facilitate the pyrotechnics,” noted Stephanie Rudnick, head of communications. The club’s statement added, “A fireworks malfunction did occur during last night’s post-match celebration at Angel City FC’s game vs. Orlando at BMO Stadium.” Their medical and safety teams were on site, ensuring a secure evacuation.
The club is collaborating with the vendor to investigate and consider future actions. Greenhut mentioned that many fans had left before the fireworks, reducing potential injuries. Her ticket ambassador apologized, stating, “We did this for the [Los Angeles Football Club], and everything was fine.”
Greenhut complimented the game but suggested drones might be a safer option for future events.
By the time the stadium cleared, the air had settled, but the incident remains a talking point for safer future celebrations.
