Scandal Forces Maine Senate Candidate to Exit Race

Senator John Fetterman, D-Pa., did not hold back his words following Graham Platner’s withdrawal from the Maine U.S. Senate race. Platner, a Democratic candidate, left the race after facing a series of scandals, including a recent rape allegation.

“The trash took itself out tonight,” Fetterman stated on “Jesse Watters Primetime.” He expressed relief for Maine voters, believing they now have the opportunity to choose a different candidate. Fetterman pointed to Platner’s legacy, noting he would be remembered as the accused rapist who was forced out of the election. “That’s your legacy, bro,” Fetterman commented, also criticizing Platner for past domestic issues.

Platner’s campaign ended amid accusations from multiple women. In particular, a rape allegation from Maine resident Jenny Racicot became a significant turning point. Racicot accused Platner of entering her home and engaging in non-consensual sexual acts. Platner has not faced criminal charges, but the allegation severely impacted his candidacy.

Fetterman also criticized colleagues who supported Platner, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. He suggested they owe an apology to voters. “What did Democrats see in this guy?” Fetterman asked, referencing Platner’s controversial history.

The fallout from Platner’s scandalous campaign could affect the Democrats’ chances of gaining control in the Senate. Currently, Republicans hold a 53-47 majority, and Maine’s seat was deemed crucial for Democrats aiming for a majority.
