The New Orleans Saints: A Brief History
The New Orleans Saints became part of the NFL as an expansion team in 1967. Throughout their history, they have remained based in New Orleans.
In their early years, the Saints faced numerous challenges. They did not achieve a winning season for their first 20 years. The breakthrough came in 1987 when they finally posted a winning record and made their initial playoff appearance. Their first playoff victory followed in 2000.
The turn of the century marked a period of improved performance for the team. The highlight came in 2009, when the Saints secured their only Super Bowl victory (Super Bowl XLIV), defeating the Indianapolis Colts.
Under the leadership of head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Drew Brees, the Saints enjoyed some of the most successful periods in their history.
The Saints compete in the NFC South division, alongside the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
