5-Year-Old Boy Struck by Stray Bullet in Detroit, Expected to Recover

A five-year-old boy, Kaizer, was accidentally shot by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle outside his home in Detroit. Fortunately, Kaizer has been released from the hospital and is on the path to recovery.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening near Trojan Avenue, close to Fargo-Oakfield Park on Detroit’s west side. Kaizer’s father described the shocking event, saying his son was riding near their driveway when gunfire suddenly erupted. At first, Kaizer believed he had been hit by a firework.

“He was screaming, ‘A firecracker hit me,'” his father recounted. “I couldn’t discern what happened initially. Then, I saw blood running down his arm.” Acting quickly, Kaizer’s father removed his shirt to help keep his son calm before rushing him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison spoke at a news conference Tuesday night, identifying Kaizer as an innocent bystander in the shooting, believed to have been carried out by a masked teenager. The police have since taken this teenager into custody and are looking for additional suspects as part of their ongoing investigation.

While details about the suspects and possible charges are still pending, Kaizer’s father expressed his disbelief over the incident. “I know God was watching over him,” he said. “I can’t fathom why someone would bring a gun to a park where children are playing.”
