DHS Urges Detainment of Illegal Immigrant Accused of Murder in Michigan

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) emphasized the need to keep Valmir Djempsley, an illegal immigrant from Haiti, in custody following his alleged involvement in a fatal stabbing incident at a Michigan food processing plant. The incident occurred during an argument, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez.

According to charges, the altercation took place on June 30 at the Clemens Food Group plant in Coldwater. Djempsley, a 20-year-old, allegedly chased and fatally stabbed Chavez in the back after an argument escalated. Djempsley claimed Chavez had headbutted him prior to the stabbing.

Djempsley had entered the United States illegally through Texas and was released into the country by the Biden administration. At the time of the incident, he was reportedly on a work visa. Following the incident, Djempsley was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty in court. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has requested local authorities not to release him without notifying ICE.

Acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis strongly criticized open border policies, attributing the presence of the accused to such policies. Bis stated, “This illegal alien barbarically stabbed his coworker to death. This murderer was released into American communities by the Biden administration.” Bis further emphasized the danger posed by Djempsley and the importance of keeping him in detention.

A Branch County prosecutor also highlighted the gravity of the crime, describing it as “the most serious violation known to humankind.” The prosecutor remarked that Djempsley, as a guest in the country, should have conducted himself appropriately but instead chose violence.

Djempsley is currently being held without bond in the Branch County jail. ICE agents continue their efforts to ensure his detention, reflecting broader concerns over immigration enforcement and public safety.
