Illegal Immigrant Involved in Fatal North Carolina Crash

An illegal immigrant from Mexico, Jaime Santiago Corona, was involved in a tragic car accident in North Carolina, leading to the death of a 6-year-old girl. Corona, who was driving with a revoked license, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with an SUV.

The accident happened on July 3 in Pitt County. The SUV was driven by 35-year-old Kelli Toler, who was with her two children when the incident occurred. Following the collision, Toler and her 4-year-old child were taken to ECU Health Greenville with serious injuries. Sadly, her 6-year-old daughter, Calli Toler, died at the scene.

Acting Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Lauren Bis, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as ‘100% preventable’. She extended her condolences to the Toler family, who were reportedly heading for lunch and a swimming outing when the crash occurred.

Corona faces charges including misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, careless and reckless driving, and driving with a revoked license. Additionally, he has illegally re-entered the United States three times, a felony by DHS standards. His criminal record includes numerous offenses like homicide-negligent manslaughter with a vehicle, obstruction of police, DUI, failure to appear in court, and various traffic violations.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer hold on Corona. The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed its cooperation with ICE regarding the case.
