Louisiana Man Charged With Murder After Deputy U.S. Marshal Killed

A man from Louisiana, Clarence A. Frazier Jr., aged 48, has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a deputy U.S. marshal. The incident occurred while law enforcement was serving an arrest warrant, according to federal officials.

Law enforcement was at Frazier’s home to serve an arrest warrant concerning a prior sexual battery charge. He reportedly barricaded himself and opened fire, as detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana. If convicted, Frazier could face life imprisonment or the death penalty for the murder of a federal officer.

The deputy U.S. marshal killed was identified as Drew Hanson. Officials described him as a dedicated husband, father, and son. “Tragically, the actions of the defendant claimed the life of a devoted law enforcement officer,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche. He also emphasized that Frazier is now in custody and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The shooting took place on July 13. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office had located Frazier at his residence and secured a search warrant for the property. Authorities had announced their presence before forcing entry into the home.

Frazier allegedly barricaded himself in a bedroom and fired at officers, hitting Hanson. After a prolonged standoff, Frazier was taken into custody. Hanson succumbed to his injuries caused by the gunfire exchange.
