Senator Gallego Faces Scrutiny Over Past Relationships

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, avoided commenting on the recent scandal involving his party member, Senator Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz. Instead, Schumer focused on his upcoming critique of President Donald Trump’s prime-time address. This distraction follows a report by the New York Post about Gallego’s involvement in sexual relationships with Democratic House staffers, who were not working for him directly during his time in the House. According to House rules, members are allowed to have relationships with staff outside their own office.

Sources mentioned that the relationships presumably occurred while Gallego was unmarried. He has acknowledged the relationships, which were with aides to Texas Democrats. Asked about the allegations, Gallego stated that he would not engage in gossip.

The situation arises amidst Gallego’s potential presidential bid for 2028. His office did not immediately respond for comment regarding the rumor, which follows scrutiny over his association with former Rep. Eric Swalwell. Swalwell resigned from the House amid accusations of sexual misconduct, which he denied entirely.

Gallego distanced himself from Swalwell, claiming their friendship clouded his judgment concerning longstanding rumors about the ex-lawmaker. He also appointed Joe Biden’s former deputy press secretary for crisis management after the aftermath of the Swalwell situation.

Recently, the Senate Ethics Committee dismissed a probe related to a complaint by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., accusing Gallego of sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations. He asserted that the committee’s decision supported his view that the accusations were baseless conspiracies propagated by far-right activists.

In response to the latest allegation, Luna commented on social media, recommending Gallego’s resignation, expressing satisfaction that individuals are speaking publicly about his alleged behavior.
