Tom Brady’s Inspiring Encounter with Young Fan Eli Griffith at Fanatics Fest

In the heart of Manhattan’s Javits Center, Eli Griffith, along with his family, anxiously awaited in a green room on the first day of Fanatics Fest. The Griffith family–father Joe, mother Jamie, and sister Ava–were eager for Eli to meet Tom Brady, their beloved athlete whose name adorned their Michigan Wolverines and New England Patriots jerseys.

Thanks to a partnership between Fanatics and Make-A-Wish, Eli had the chance to meet Brady, the legendary NFL quarterback. Speaking to Fox News Digital before the meeting, Eli expressed his nervousness about meeting his idol but mentioned a “mutual connection” due to their shared roots in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Brady’s stardom began with the Wolverines, leading to his celebrated status in the NFL.

Eli shared, “As the day has been going, it’s just more and more surreal. It’s like this is the time it’s happening, and I just imagine him walking in the door.”

When the awaited moment arrived, Brady joined the Griffith family, sharing quality time they had anticipated all day. Brady later spoke with Fox News Digital, praising Eli, who’s honing his journalism skills in high school, for his thoughtful questions.

“He didn’t want to be a journalist. He said, ‘I am a journalist!’ I said, ‘Absolutely, you keep going,’” Brady said with a smile. “He had seven questions for me, and a lot of fun ones. He definitely put a lot of time and thought into it, and he asked a lot of good questions. A few of them I’ve never been asked before.”

Brady and Eli enjoyed a candid interview, autographs, and a family catch. The heartwarming encounter fulfilled Eli’s wish and provided inspiration to both parties. Brady reflected on his experiences:

“When I was a player, we did a lot of it around football training camp and we had a lot of great wishes over the years. Just love being able to impact people’s lives in a positive way. A lot of these people are dealt with challenging situations – families and kids. But they have the brightest spirits and the biggest hearts, and it’s just amazing to meet them, draw inspiration. They think they’re drawing inspiration from us–I think it actually goes the other way.”

At 14, Eli was diagnosed with a rare genetic heart condition, requiring a transplant at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. During his hospital stay, a photo of Eli with Tom Brady trading cards on his chest captivated Brady. Eli drew strength from his idol and the support from the entire Wolverines football team during this period.

Joe Griffith mentioned, “The Michigan football team actually stepped up a lot when he was in the hospital. Players came and visited him. Charles Woodson gave a shoutout. We had a connection somehow through Jim Harbaugh. The players did a little voice message to Eli. All of this kept his spirits high.”

After their introduction at Fanatics Fest, Eli and Brady continued bonding on the event floor, where Eli helped Brady distribute trading card packs. They also watched Rob Gronkowski, Brady’s former teammate, take a dip in a dunk tank filled with Raising Cane’s sauce.

For the Griffith family, the experience offered a bright moment amid challenges, celebrating resilience and hope. Brady remarked, “There’s a lot of people digging deep in life, and we all face our own unique challenges and he’s a great kid. What a great spirit.”
