Historic Events and Halftime Show at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final
A Historic World Cup Final
The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final was a historic event, with Argentina having the opportunity to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win consecutive titles. This final was one of the most expensive sporting events on record and marked the end of the most attended World Cup in history.
The First World Cup Halftime Show
This final was distinguished by featuring the first halftime show in a World Cup Final, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin. Despite being shorter than a typical Super Bowl halftime show, it packed an impressive lineup. Performances included Madonna, The Muppets, BTS, Justin Bieber, conductor Gustavo Dudamel, Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, Shakira with Burna Boy, and a children’s choir.
Madonna began her performance in the stadium tunnel, receiving cheers as she moved onto the field.
Dudamel led The Muppets in “Seven Nation Army” before BTS took the stage with “Dynamite.” Ted Lasso introduced Justin Bieber, who performed “Everything Hallelujah,” adjusting the lyrics to mention the “World Cup.” Shakira and Burna Boy followed with the official anthem “Dai Dai,” supported by lively dancers. To conclude, children sang a song about “love” alongside Chris Martin and other artists.
Reactions to the Halftime Show
The halftime show was compared favorably to a recent Super Bowl performance by Bad Bunny, praised for its energy and clarity. However, some criticized the show’s length, as it extended halftime to 27 minutes. Former soccer star Wayne Rooney voiced his discontent on the BBC, calling it “crap.” Despite mixed reviews, many agreed that the show was enjoyable and seamless.
The Match Itself
The match between Spain and Argentina was initially slow, with few scoring opportunities. Still, the successful halftime show suggests future World Cup finals might continue this entertainment tradition.
