Vice President JD Vance Welcomes Fourth Child

Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, announced the birth of their fourth child, Alec Neel Vance, on Sunday. They shared the news through a statement on social media platform X. The statement shared their excitement, noting the happiness and health of both Usha and the baby, and the joy of Alec’s siblings, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, in meeting their new brother.

The birth took place at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The couple expressed gratitude to the staff for their care and support during the delivery and Usha’s recovery.

JD and Usha Vance have been married since 2014. Their new arrival makes Alec the first child born to a U.S. vice president’s family while in office in modern history. The last recorded instance was in 1870 when Schuyler Colfax Jr., vice president to Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife Ellen had their son.

In his recent book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” Vance talked about encouraging Usha to have another child despite the increased public attention on their family. A change of heart came for Usha after the tragic death of friend Charlie Kirk. Vance mentioned how flying Kirk’s body home and conversations with Kirk’s widow influenced their decision to expand their family.

During a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview, Usha Vance described Erika Kirk’s words about family as impactful. She acknowledged considering another child prior to these events but noted that these discussions were already in progress when Erika’s comments added a moving dimension to their decision.
