Chicago White Sox Face Setback with Kyle Teel’s Injury

In Arlington, Texas, Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel faced a challenging moment during Monday’s game against the Texas Rangers. In the second inning, Teel prepared to catch a throw to home plate from right fielder Braden Montgomery. He caught the ball, turned, and attempted to tag the sliding Ezequiel Duran. However, Duran made it safely home.

Adding to the team’s difficulties, Teel left the game with a left ankle injury after the play. The White Sox announced that Teel is undergoing further evaluation. This incident is part of an injury-ridden season for Teel. Earlier, on March 10, he strained his right hamstring while playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. During a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on May 16, he experienced a setback by spraining the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee as his front spike got caught mid-swing.

Teel made his 2026 regular-season debut with the White Sox on June 22. So far, he has played 19 games and has a batting average of .190, an on-base percentage of .271, and a slugging percentage of .317, with two home runs and 14 RBIs.

Following Teel’s exit, Drew Romo took over as catcher for the remainder of Monday’s game.

Despite these challenges, Chicago White Sox’s shortstop Colson Montgomery returned to action after the All-Star break. The team maintained their momentum, securing first place in the AL Central. However, they faced a setback with Davis Martin’s loss in a narrow 1-0 game, ending their four-game winning streak. The team had earlier showcased their offensive strength with a 12-4 win, reclaiming sole possession of first place.
