In recent days, First Lady Melania Trump did not attend two significant events in Washington. These events were Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral on Tuesday and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, which had been rescheduled.

President Donald Trump was present at both occasions, delivering remarks at Graham’s funeral. However, the First Lady did not accompany him. Newsweek sought comments from the First Lady’s press office on Tuesday. They did not address her absence from either of the events. Earlier, a White House spokesperson informed Fox News that a prior commitment prevented her attendance on Friday.

Following Senator Graham’s passing, Melania Trump released a statement. She praised the senator’s dedication to public service. “I am saddened by the unexpected passing of Senator Graham,” she stated. “Lindsey devoted his life to the service of our nation, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his duties. My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his enduring legacy.”

Threat Emerges Amid Questions About First Lady’s Absences

The notable absences came as the U.S. Secret Service addressed an Iran-linked video threat. The video targeted Melania Trump. The agency reviews threats directed at those they protect. “The Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Nate Herring, a lead public affairs specialist with the U.S. Secret Service’s Communications and Media Relations office, informed Newsweek on Monday.

This statement followed reports about a video from an Iranian state-linked media channel. The video targeted the First Lady. Such rhetoric against President Donald Trump and his family has increased amid tensions between Washington and Tehran.

“Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence,” Herring added.

Officials have not linked Melania Trump’s absence from the events to the alleged threat. There is no public indication of such connections.
