Thomas Hampson’s Journey in Reviving American Song Traditions
Thomas Hampson is renowned for his classical vocal roots in European traditions. For over 25 years, Hampson has dedicated himself to reviving American traditions in song. His efforts were prominently showcased in Aspen, Colorado, as part of the arts and culture series, CANVAS.
The report was presented by Fred de Sam Lazaro, who observed Hampson’s work firsthand. Lazaro is the director of the Under-Told Stories Project at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. This program blends international journalism with teaching. Lazaro has been with PBS NewsHour since 1985, contributing regularly and serving as a substitute anchor for PBS’ Religion and Ethics Newsweekly.
