An investigation is ongoing following a deputy-involved shooting in Chino Hills on Wednesday night. The incident resulted in the deaths of a kidnapping suspect and their victim during a traffic stop. The suspect shot the victim, who was in the trunk of their car, just before deputies opened fire.
According to the authorities, deputies responded to a call reporting gunfire and cries for help. They stopped the suspect’s vehicle, initially unaware that it was connected to a kidnapping incident. The tragic event concluded with both the driver and the victim dying at the scene. A second suspect, who was also present, surrendered to law enforcement.
Public Information Officer Gloria Orejel stated that the troubling sequence began when the victim left their home and was shot by the two kidnappers. They then placed the victim in the vehicle’s trunk. As deputies approached the scene responding to the reports of gunfire, they identified the suspect’s car and conducted a traffic stop.
“The passenger did comply,” Orejel said. “However, the driver exited the vehicle, approached the trunk of the suspect vehicle and fired a shot into a victim that was inside the trunk.” Subsequently, deputies shot the driver. Both the driver and the trunk-bound victim were declared dead at the scene.
The relationship between the suspects and the victim remains unclear, and further information about the victim has not been disclosed. The investigation continues as authorities seek to understand the circumstances that led to this deadly confrontation.
