Chris Hemsworth’s family getaway had a dramatic moment when he encountered a lightning storm on a small plane. The ‘Thor’ actor took a trip to Costa Rica with wife Elsa Pataky and their three children. During the journey, they experienced a turbulent flight, which he documented in a YouTube vlog.
The video showed flashes of lightning around the aircraft and visible turbulence. Hemsworth, visibly shaken, was seen mouthing, ‘What the f—?’ He described the flight as a ‘crazy plane ride’ in the video caption.

Thankfully, the flight concluded safely, allowing the family to enjoy their vacation without further incident. The trip included activities such as surfing, ATV riding, cliff jumping, fishing, and hiking through waterfalls. In one instance, Pataky jokingly pushed Hemsworth into a waterfall.
The couple, married since 2010, are parents to daughter India and twin sons Sasha and Tristan. They often engage in adventurous outdoor activities, both at their home in Australia and during travels.
The vacation took place years after Hemsworth publicly addressed how a health revelation impacted his perspective on work and family. While filming National Geographic’s ‘Limitless,’ he learned he carried two copies of the APOE4 gene, which heightens the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
After the revelation was made public in 2022, Hemsworth paused his acting career temporarily. Speculation arose about his retirement or disease development, which he found distressful. In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, he expressed his frustration about these rumors.
He admitted, ‘It really kind of p—ed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal.’
He also recounted a humorous response from a fan who commented, ‘I hope Chris forgets he’s retiring and comes back.’
