Wisconsin Brewery Faces Criticism for Controversial Promotions

The Minocqua Brewing Company in Wisconsin is facing backlash for its provocative promotions tied to the deaths of political figures. Known for its progressive stance, the brewery previously stirred controversy with a campaign offering free beer on the day of former President Donald Trump’s death. Now, it has announced a ‘half-price beer day’ to coincide with the death of Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

In a recent Instagram post, the brewery claimed McConnell was responsible for half of America’s current problems and stated it would celebrate his death with discounted beer. The brewery is also selling ‘half-price beer day’ T-shirts, encouraging supporters to join in when the event occurs.

“We’re gonna start serving our beer at ‘half price,’ because we promised #halfpricebeerday on the day they unplug the ventilator,” the brewery continued.

McConnell has been absent from the Senate following a fall at his home and is not medically cleared to return, according to his office. His absence has sparked criticism from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who has demanded proof of McConnell’s ability to serve or his resignation.

In addition to the controversial promotions, Minocqua Brewing Company faces potential legal troubles. Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue plans to revoke the company’s permit due to alleged tax violations related to transporting beer without proper permits. Owner Kirk Bangstad, also an activist, criticized the action as excessive and has filed an administrative appeal, putting the revocation on hold.

The brewery’s political activity doesn’t stop with beer promotions. Bangstad runs the Minocqua Brewing Company SuperPAC, which aims to unseat Republican officials linked to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot and misinformation about COVID-19.

Fox News has reached out to Minocqua Brewing Company, Governor Beshear’s office, and Senator McConnell’s office for comments but has not received a response.
