Brandon Aiyuk’s Uncertain Future with San Francisco 49ers

Brandon Aiyuk’s situation has become a topic of intrigue as the San Francisco 49ers commence their training camp. The team has not provided any updates on Aiyuk’s status, leaving the next steps up to the wide receiver. He remains on the reserve/left squad list, a position he has held since the end of 2025. After missing the entire last season due to a prolonged standoff, reinstatement in 2026 would likely require him to apply to the NFL.

The path forward involves either attending the training camp or notifying the 49ers of his intent to report. Issues between Aiyuk and the team have been ongoing for about a year.

He said the team should have exercised more patience. “When a player is discontent, securing compensation becomes challenging.” White concluded his career with the Atlanta Falcons and accumulated 10,863 receiving yards in regular-season play.

The 49ers’ recent decision to re-sign Deebo Samuel prompted a reaction from Aiyuk, who commented cryptically on Instagram. Moreover, Aiyuk has criticized the NFL Players Association and appeared interested in linking up with the Commanders, which seems unlikely after he critiqued Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. Nonetheless, Daniels mentioned having resolved everything privately with Aiyuk.

In late July, 49ers’ general manager John Lynch emphasized focusing on players present at camp. “We wish Aiyuk and his family well,” Lynch remarked, underscoring the team’s direction.

The 49ers’ wide receiver lineup faced an unexpected challenge when Ricky Pearsall was placed on injured reserve due to knee swelling, having seemed like a promising addition to the team. Aiyuk, who made a significant impact in 2023 with 1,342 receiving yards and second-team All-Pro recognition, participated in only seven games in 2024 before an injury sidelined him again.
