Tennessee Primary Elections See Blackburn and Rose Compete for GOP Nomination

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) was seen departing the weekly Senate Republican policy luncheon and heading to the Senate Chamber for a vote on June 23, 2026. The conclusion of voting in Tennessee on Thursday will determine the Republican and Democratic candidates for the upcoming gubernatorial election in November.

In Tennessee, a state with a strong Republican presence, Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. John Rose, both Republicans, are competing for their party’s nomination. Throughout most of the race, Blackburn has been the favorite to secure the GOP nomination. However, recent polls suggest that the contest with Rose, a four-term congressman representing parts of Nashville and a significant portion of Middle Tennessee, is tighter than initially expected.

Former President Trump has chosen to remain neutral, refraining from endorsing any candidate in this primary. His decision aligns with his previous statements to Tennessee’s congressional delegation in June about not favoring any particular candidate.

On the Democratic side, candidates include Memphis City Council member Jerri Green, museum president Carnita Atwater, pastor Kevin Lee McCants, businessman Tim Cyr, and musician Adam Kurtz.
