LeBron James Joins Philadelphia 76ers for 24th NBA Season

LeBron James has decided to sign a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. This move concludes his much-anticipated free agency process and marks the beginning of his 24th season in the NBA.

James received offers from various NBA players before finalizing his decision. Tyrese Maxey, who shares agent Rich Paul with James, reached out to him with texts and calls. Despite the outreach, Maxey claims it required minimal persuasion to bring James to Philadelphia.

“Not many. It wasn’t a lot of convincing. Couple phone calls, couple texts,” Maxey stated, as reported by team insider John Clark of NBC. “We’re good friends. Now, I guess we’re friends. He’s a lot older than me, but I guess we’re friends.”

In a significant addition to the team, the 76ers also secured five-time NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown through a trade with the Boston Celtics, a key rival in the Eastern Conference. The projected starting lineup for Philadelphia includes James, Maxey, Brown, Joel Embiid, and VJ Edgecombe.

Maxey is coming off his best NBA season, scoring an average of 28.3 points per game during the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old was the second top scorer in the Eastern Conference, just behind Brown, who averaged 28.7 points per game.

The 76ers are now positioned as a leading contender in the upcoming season’s Eastern Conference showdown.
