Mercedes AMG Car Owners File Lawsuit Over Branding Injuries

Two Mercedes AMG drivers have initiated a class action lawsuit against the luxury car manufacturer, citing the AMG logo’s potential to cause burns. The plaintiffs, Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep “Karina” Bath, allege that the metallic AMG logo on the driver’s seat of certain vehicles can contact an occupant’s upper back, neck, or shoulder, leading to injuries.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court of California’s Western division. The plaintiffs are seeking compensation from Mercedes for medical expenses, pain, suffering, and emotional distress. They also demand that Mercedes pay for the removal of the logo for other owners.

Lahijani, based in Los Angeles, had leased a 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class. He sustained second-degree burns on his back on May 31 while wearing a tank top. Subsequent medical evaluation confirmed first- and second-degree burns, identified as being caused by the “AMG inscribed” injury.

Bath, residing in Chatsworth, California, experienced similar burns after her shoulder touched the logo upon entering her parked Mercedes-AMG. The burns, initially causing a burning sensation, developed into a visible mark consistent with a thermal contact burn.

Attempts to reach Mercedes-Benz for comment have been unsuccessful. The lawsuit brings to light previous allegations faced by Mercedes-Benz USA and its parent company Daimler AG. In December, they agreed to a $149.6 million settlement over accusations of using devices in vehicles to pass emissions tests fraudulently. These devices, installed in over 211,000 diesel vehicles between 2008 and 2016, manipulated emission controls during tests but disabled them during standard operations.
