U.S. State Department Revokes Over 175,000 Visas Under Trump Administration

The U.S. State Department recently revealed that over 175,000 visas have been revoked during President Donald Trump’s administration. This announcement comes less than two years into Trump’s second term.

The revoked visas concern foreign nationals who violated visa terms, committed crimes, or posed threats to U.S. national security. The State Department emphasized its commitment to this action, aligning with Trump’s policies aimed at maintaining public safety and security.

Criminal Activities Leading to Visa Revocations

The majority of visas were revoked because of various law enforcement encounters. Key criminal activities include assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug-related crimes. Other reasons include reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, and embezzlement.

Specific examples were highlighted by the department, such as cases involving serious offenses like felony rape and sexual exploitation.

A foreign national was charged with felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation of a minor, leading to visa revocation.

Addressing Birth Tourism

The issue of ‘birth tourism’ also came under scrutiny. The department noted that a U.S. embassy in North Africa revoked more than 100 visas of parents traveling to the U.S. for childbirth, aiming at gaining U.S. citizenship for their children.

Leadership and Ongoing Efforts

President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are spearheading efforts to ensure the integrity of the U.S. immigration system. The department restated its commitment to protect American communities, asserting that a U.S. visa is a privilege.

Under this administration, the prioritization of national safety remains a clear objective of the State Department.
