Project Healing Waters offers veterans a unique therapeutic experience through fly fishing. Daisy Hargrave, a Field Support Specialist, explains the program’s roots, starting in 2005 at Walter Reed Medical Center. This initiative provides peer support and a nourishing community for veterans in recovery. Fly fishing bridges gaps, connecting them through shared experiences.
NASCAR Star Denny Hamlin’s Fishing Passion
Outside of racing, Denny Hamlin has developed a strong interest in bass fishing. This hobby has grown beyond casual, highlighted by a recent fishing trip with Bassmaster Elite Series professional Chris Zaldain. Hamlin and Zaldain fished at Camelot Bell Ranch in Texas, documenting their adventure for Zaldain’s “Zaldaingerous” YouTube channel. The pair, joined by Charlie Wend, aimed to catch trophy largemouth bass.
Hamlin’s catches included bass weighing 5.15, 5.13, and finally a 7.3-pound largemouth before returning to North Carolina. Their fishing technique involved using ChatterBaits and swimming worms in shallow waters. They later transitioned to deeper spots, employing sonar to track lures.
Despite challenges, with misses of large fish, the day ended with Charlie catching an 11-pound, 6-ounce largemouth as Hamlin left. Last year, Hamlin reflected on fishing’s appeal, noting how it’s taught him patience—a stark contrast to his high-speed racing career.
By December, he upgraded his equipment, purchasing a Nitro Z20 XL bass boat, reflecting his dedication to the sport. This boating investment underscores his significant commitment to fishing.
