WHCA Concerned Over President Trump’s Secret Plane Switch

The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) is addressing recent concerns following President Donald Trump’s covert plane switch. The move aimed to maintain pool credibility and ensure accurate documentation of the president’s actions during future security events.

A revealing Washington Post report highlighted that last month, Trump secretly changed planes due to a credible threat from Iran. Reporters and some White House staff remained on the original plane, unaware of Trump’s absence. This incident triggered backlash from journalists who felt misled and at potential risk.

Jacqui Heinrich, Fox News anchor and the new WHCA president, sent an ‘off-the-record’ memo to members. This followed her meeting with Trump administration officials to discuss the incident.

‘I want members to know what WHCA has done since the story was published. We contacted flight members and pool chairs to address concerns about press safety and maintaining an independent record of the president’s movements,’ Heinrich wrote in the letter shared by Fox News Digital.

Heinrich had a productive meeting with senior administration staff to express these concerns. She acknowledged the Secret Service’s responsibility to protect the president and the necessity for extraordinary security measures sometimes. However, she stressed the importance of maintaining independent press coverage and an accurate historical record of the president’s movements.

Heinrich emphasized the need for reporters to correct the record post any security threats to prevent misinformation. This, she argued, would avoid uncertainty within the press corps and ensure reliable independent reporting.

Jacqui Heinrich also urged the White House to collaborate with WHCA on protocols for future security circumstances, while acknowledging the Secret Service’s duties and protecting press safety. These protocols would help preserve independent coverage and provide a mechanism to amend the record when needed.

The White House had not responded to requests for comments. The plane switch saga began when the Post reported that Trump clandestinely boarded a U.S. military aircraft in July, using an airport catering truck for cover. This was following U.S. military actions against Iranian targets earlier that summer.

Trump waved to cameras before entering the older Air Force One jet, a decoy. He then exited into a catering truck, drove to an Air Force C-32A, and flew to RAF Mildenhall in England. The media and White House staff, unaware of the switch, boarded the decoy plane and were instructed to close windows during takeoff.

Last month, Trump attended the annual WHCA Dinner, rescheduled after an incident involving a gunman.
