Sam Burns is once again set to represent the United States in the Presidents Cup. This marks his third appearance in the Presidents Cup and his fifth consecutive appearance for Team USA across both the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. Burns, now 30, first represented the U.S. at the Junior Ryder Cup when he was just 18.
Burns, a five-time PGA Tour winner, is recognized among America’s top golfers. This year, his involvement is unique as his son, Bear, will be part of this experience. Burns shared, “Bear this year, he’ll be around the team and get to hang out and enjoy it.” Bear was born in April 2024, and his daughter Belle arrived in July. Though Bear is still young to comprehend, Burns sees value in his children witnessing him representing his country.
The honor Burns feels representing the U.S. is profound. “It is such an honor for me to represent your country and play for something bigger than yourself,” he stated. Burns highlighted the significance of team spirit and playing alongside teammates and their families during such events.
While many may not immediately recognize Burns among golf’s biggest stars, his accomplishments are noteworthy. This summer, he nearly claimed his first major championship, finishing second at the U.S. Open and third at The Open. Burns came close at Royal Birkdale, leading at the 54-hole mark, and ended just behind winner Ryan Fox. Burns’ performance in the 2026 season also includes a top-five finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Beyond golf, Burns places priority on family. In an interview, he reflected on becoming a father and acknowledged the patience required in parenting. Burns shared insights about the challenges and rewarding aspects of fatherhood. “You feel like they want your attention and your love,” he remarked, emphasizing the special nature of being a dad.
His Christian faith plays a significant role in how he views golf. “Golf is what I do, not who I am,” he expressed, maintaining a balance between his passion for golf and other significant aspects of his life. Despite the constant pressure and effort golf demands, Burns remains grounded in faith, family, and country.
As Burns prepares for upcoming competitions at Medinah, he will be joined by his son Bear. He anticipates a professional journey enriched by moments shared with his family while donning the colors of the American flag. Looking ahead, Burns aims to add to his successes with a major championship, additional PGA Tour victories, and more opportunities to represent the U.S. But as Burns reflects, the weeks playing for something larger than himself are what he cherishes the most.
