The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the arrest of nine men in Virginia for alleged child exploitation, with three identified as illegal immigrants. These individuals have been accused of traveling to Fairfax County to engage in sexual encounters with minors, following explicit online conversations with undercover detectives posing as juveniles.
Suspects Released on Bond
Reyben Leono Sanchez Hernandez, age 21, Wilmer Alexander Aguilar Cruz, age 28, and Henry Adalberto Flores Herrera, age 39, were the three men identified. All three have criminal records and entered the U.S. from El Salvador. Despite their histories, they have since been released on bonds ranging from $3,000 to $5,000.
Criminal Histories Unveiled
Sanchez Hernandez has charges including solicitation of prostitution involving a minor and driving on a suspended license. He had entered the U.S. illegally in 2013 and was released after a brief detention.
Aguilar Cruz’s record includes charges of computer solicitation of a child and threats to commit violence. He was initially detained near Hidalgo, Texas, in 2012, but was released within weeks.
Flores Herrera has a history of felony solicitation of prostitution from a minor and other offenses. His entry method into the U.S. remains undisclosed.
DHS Criticizes Policies and Individuals
A DHS spokesperson criticized past and current U.S. administration immigration policies, attributing the increase in unvetted illegal immigrants to these decisions. The spokesperson emphasized that recent efforts by former President Trump and Secretary Mullin have aimed to uphold stricter immigration enforcement.
Call for Action
DHS urged Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger to enhance cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They highlighted the state’s policy under Spanberger’s leadership of diminishing cooperation with the agency, as exemplified by the termination of specific agreements.
