Doug Ellin Refutes Debi Mazar’s Claims of ‘Toxic’ Environment on ‘Entourage’ Set

Days after Debi Mazar, known for her role in ‘Entourage,’ referred to the show’s environment as ‘toxic,’ the show’s creator, Doug Ellin, has responded. Mazar, who played the character Shauna Roberts throughout the show’s eight seasons on HBO, called the set a ‘testosterone-fueled environment’ in an interview.

Mazar claimed that after the birth of her second child, some executives were critical of her weight. In response to her statements, Doug Ellin labeled these claims as ‘disgusting’ on social media, asserting that body concerns were never part of the show’s culture.

My thoughts are this is disgusting. Never, ever did myself or anyone that matters care or discuss Debi Mazar’s body, Ellin wrote. I would one million percent embrace any woman who got pregnant. The only bodies on the show I ever commented on were Adrian’s (I wanted him more muscular) and Jerry Ferrara’s, whom I wanted fatter. I will forever feel bad about that because I didn’t realize the health implications at the time and now couldn’t be happier for Jerry’s transformation.

Ellin further defended the show’s environment in exchanges with social media users, stating that most women involved remained friends. He refuted the importance of Mazar’s appearance in casting decisions, emphasizing her talent as the key factor.

‘Entourage’ depicted a rising actor navigating Hollywood with his childhood friends. The series ran from 2004 to 2011, with Mazar reprising her role in the 2015 film adaptation. Despite her experiences, Mazar acknowledged having fun during much of the series, although she described a shift in atmosphere from the third season onwards.

While Ellin disputes the toxicity claims, Mazar stands by her assessment, sharing that her return after childbirth was met with criticism about her weight. She clarified that her candidness about feelings did not affect her professionalism or appreciation for her role in the series.
