Lincoln-Way East Students Removed for Alleged Racist Behavior at Football Game
Five students from Lincoln-Way East were escorted out of a varsity football game on Friday night for reportedly engaging in racist harassment and exhibiting offensive behavior toward Homewood-Flossmoor fans. This incident occurred in the student bleachers, according to statements from the respective high schools released on Saturday.
H-F District 233 Superintendent Jennifer Norrell and Clinton Alexander, the school principal, issued a joint statement on the school’s website regarding the actions of the five students. They described the behavior as a “very bad choice” involving disrespectful and racist harassment directed at HF students in the bleachers.
They also expressed gratitude towards the staff members who responded promptly, safely removing the offending individuals from school property and ensuring the remaining students stayed safe. The district mentioned its ongoing collaboration with Lincoln-Way East and local authorities to explore all possible measures to prevent future incidents, including legal actions.
Lincoln-Way East’s statement on their website acknowledged the situation, highlighting that they are addressing the issue seriously. They confirmed that the students involved in the inappropriate and offensive behavior were not part of the football team.
Their statement included an apology to the HF community, emphasizing that the behavior observed does not align with the standards expected of Lincoln-Way students. The students involved have been identified, and the school will adhere to established discipline policies and procedures.
