Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Discusses Oil Prices and U.S. Economy
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent projected that oil prices might drop to $40-$50 per barrel once the Iran conflict concludes. He cited the potential for increased supply hitting the market as constraints dissipate.
Bessent described the American economy as strong and growing. He highlighted a surge in productivity during an interview on My View with Lara Trump. Addressing Fox News host Lara Trump, he stated, “On the other side of this, we could see oil prices at $40 or $50 because there’s so much supply becoming available. It’s just restricted right now.”

Bessent remarked, “Americans, on average, are breaking even. Working-class Americans are performing slightly better than inflation, although we don’t find this satisfactory.” He noted ongoing wage increases, citing a renaissance in manufacturing and construction. Bessent predicted continued wage growth, with the conflict ending leading to tangible wage gains.
LIZ PEEK: THE TRUMP ECONOMY IS DOING BETTER THAN THE MEDIA WANT TO ADMIT
Amid ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions, stemming from recent U.S. attacks on Iranian tankers, Bessent forecasted that the Strait of Hormuz would lose significance in global oil trade. Gulf nations are exploring alternative pipeline routes to bypass the troubled area, reducing Iran’s capability to disrupt oil supplies.
Bessent referred to current strategies against Iran as the greatest economic isolation in history. He highlighted the effectiveness of blockades and sanctions, saying it’s a “powerful one-two punch” in economic isolation tactics.
He concluded on an optimistic note, expecting a safer world post-Iran conflict, a resolution on the nuclear issue, and an emerging phase of growth.
