John Cena may have stepped away from his in-ring career, but WWE star Cody Rhodes is engaging with him in a virtual arena. Rhodes, Cena, and other WWE stars are part of a new crossover with Clash of Clans, a popular mobile game. In this event dubbed the ‘Search for Cena,’ Rhodes and the Clash of Clans community aim to locate Cena’s base within the game. This event runs through September 30.
Cody Rhodes shared with OutKick Dropkick his excitement about being part of Clash of Clans. ‘We’ve got millions of players on Clash of Clans globally,’ Rhodes said, reminiscing about his early days in the game, inspired by Cena himself. Rhodes once joined the O’Leary Klan led by Cena, noting Cena’s leadership before they parted ways due to differing gaming styles.
The crossover allows players to raid Cena’s base and earn rewards. Rhodes finds joy in the experience, mentioning the thrill of seeing WWE elements, such as the ‘Barbarian King’ skin, integrated into the game with new graphics and music.
Rhodes acknowledged Cena’s initial influence in getting him into the game, crediting Cena’s abundance of strategic gems. However, Rhodes humorously pointed out Cena’s tendency for scoring ‘99% one-stars,’ likening it to frequent field goals in an NFL game without touchdowns. Nevertheless, Cena was a commendable clan leader due to his contribution of good troops.
In a press release, Cena reflected on the rivalry with Rhodes, stating it began within Clash of Clans rather than the wrestling ring. ‘People think this started in the ring with Cody. It didn’t. It started when I out-raided him in the game and he threw me off his team,’ Cena remarked.
Rhodes expressed how surreal it felt to be featured in a game he had long enjoyed. His character, known as the ‘Barbarian King,’ debuted last year, adding a new layer to his gaming experience.
Other WWE stars have also joined the Clash of Clans universe, featuring characters like Alexa Bliss as the ‘Archer Queen,’ The Undertaker as the ‘Grand Warden,’ and Iyo Sky as the ‘Royal Champion.’ These integrations showcase the depth of the collaboration between WWE and the mobile game.
Clash of Clans, downloaded over 2 billion times, continues to be a standout in mobile gaming, demonstrating the broad appeal and significance of these crossovers. Ryan Gaydos, senior editor for Fox News Digital, provides insight into this exciting collaboration.
