An altercation at a St. Louis Jimmy John’s led to a shooting, leaving a 14-year-old girl injured. A restaurant employee faces charges for allegedly firing at the car carrying the teenager, according to police and court records.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, the girl was shot near Vandeventer and Laclede avenues. She was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, as confirmed by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The alleged shooter is identified as 27-year-old Adam White, a Jimmy John’s employee where the incident began. White faces charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and first-degree child endangerment, among other felonies.
The shooting is linked to a dispute involving the girl’s mother and individuals associated with the Jimmy John’s on the 3800 block of Laclede. An investigation into the mother’s connection to the restaurant is ongoing.
Investigators report the mother and her boyfriend returned to the restaurant with the teenager, escalating the confrontation, which resulted in gunfire. White allegedly had a verbal argument with a former employee that continued into the parking lot.
The former employee, her boyfriend, and the daughter left in a vehicle. As they departed, White allegedly shot multiple rounds at the vehicle, with one bullet striking the teenager in her left leg. Ballistic damage was found on the vehicle’s trunk.
White initially fled but later returned to the scene and was taken into custody. After being informed of his rights, he admitted to firing at the vehicle and leaving the gun at home. A judge has denied bond for White pending trial.
Jimmy John’s and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department have not commented on the matter.
