Barbara Eden, known for her role in “I Dream of Jeannie,” recently caused concern when she withdrew from the Cinecon Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles due to a sudden illness. The 95-year-old actress was set to be honored at the Landmark Nuart Theatre on Saturday but had to cancel her appearance shortly before the event.
The festival organizers informed attendees via a Facebook post, expressing regret over Eden’s absence and extending well wishes for her quick recovery. They acknowledged the excitement fans had in welcoming her and appreciated their understanding.
Addressing the situation, Eden used social media to update her fans. She clarified that while she’s not ill, a new medication prescribed to her had adverse side effects. These led her doctor to recommend staying home until the issue resolves. Eden expressed gratitude for the concern and assured followers that she expects to resume her activities soon.
“This is just a speedbump! I expect to be out and about as soon as I’m given the go-ahead!” she remarked, thanking everyone for their support.
Cinecon, celebrating its 62nd edition, honors classic films and Hollywood’s Golden Age stars. Eden was to receive the Cinecon Legacy Award, accompanied by a screening of her 1961 film “All Hands on Deck.” Although she could not attend, her co-star Pat Boone accepted the award on her behalf.
Barbara Eden’s career is extensive, spanning over seven decades. She became famous for her role as Jeannie in the NBC sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie” from 1965 to 1970, making her a household name. Her film credits include “Flaming Star” with Elvis Presley and “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.” Eden had two Golden Globe nominations and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame since 1988. Recently, in 2023, she received the Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Currently, Eden remains open to acting opportunities. In a recent interview, she expressed an interest in playing a villain, citing her role as “bad Jeannie” in the classic show. Her last film appearance was in 2019’s “My Adventures with Santa.”
