Justice Clarence Thomas and Justice Samuel Alito expressed disagreement as the Supreme Court dismissed Florida’s attempt to sue California. The case involved California allegedly issuing commercial truck driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
Florida filed the lawsuit following a high-profile accident last year caused by a truck driven by Harjinder Singh, an Indian man. The crash resulted in the deaths of three individuals. Florida claimed Singh lacked legal status in the U.S. and asserted that he was improperly granted licenses in California and Washington. Singh is also facing criminal charges.
Justice Thomas wrote in his dissenting opinion, “This Court declines to even hear Florida’s claims, even though it has nowhere else to bring them. Because I would allow Florida to file its complaint, I respectfully dissent.” This statement was part of the orders list released by the Supreme Court on Sunday.
