Week 3 saw a shift to calmer waters in the high school football season after the initial chaos. Teams at the top maintained their positions, with few upsets disrupting the status quo. Despite this, notable performances and emerging teams made headlines.

Oak Lawn’s Revenge and South Suburban Red Dynamics

Oak Lawn resented last season’s abrupt end, marked by a loss to Reavis, and responded with a resounding 48-14 victory over the Rams. Senior fullback Jayden Schlosser led the charge with 214 yards and three touchdowns. With an average of 55.3 points per game, Oak Lawn’s previous season seems the foundation for future success. As this season evolves, Richards remains the favorite, but their narrow win against Evergreen Park suggests competitive matchups in the conference are forthcoming. Coupled with Shepard’s potential, expect closely contested games.

Pre-Playoff Celebrations in New Lenox

The playoff expansion allows teams with three wins early qualifiers. In New Lenox, Providence and Lincoln-Way West are already celebrating their postseason slot. Providence showcased stellar defense in a 27-0 win over Joliet Catholic, complemented by impactful performances from running backs Broden Mackert and Brayden McKay. Lincoln-Way West mirrored this success, dominating their opponents 90-13 overall. Lincoln-Way East, Sandburg, and Oak Lawn similarly secured playoff status. These teams aim for an opening-round bye, already well-positioned for further success.

Significant Performances: Tinley Park vs. Argo

Tinley Park’s emphatic 50-0 win over Argo warrants attention. Under coach James Washington, the Titans rebounded from last season’s 1-8 to currently standing 2-1, averaging 43 points per game. Quarterback Randy Ludke impresses with 633 passing yards and eight touchdowns, alongside four rushing scores. Receiver Noah James contributes with 15 catches. Tinley Park prepares to face Oak Forest following a heavy loss in the previous encounter, aiming to prove their significant progress.
