Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, an event for wounded veterans, faced a setback after Uganda announced its withdrawal. Uganda’s military commander stated the nation would not participate to show allegiance to King Charles III and the monarchy. This decision was revealed on social media.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, is known for his bold statements on social platforms. On Wednesday, he made the announcement. The general is the son of President Yoweri Museveni.
Kainerugaba posted on X: “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games. We shall not participate in anything that does not have His Majesty’s approval.”
Newsweek reached out to representatives of Prince Harry and Uganda’s media team for their responses. General Kainerugaba has a history with social media. He previously left X and returned in January 2025, declaring his intent to “shake up this world.”
