A Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent, Kent Blacklidge, has been accused of multiple serious offenses in Alabama. The 43-year-old agent faces charges of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, and incest concerning a juvenile girl.
Charges and Investigation
A Baldwin County grand jury formally charged Blacklidge with numerous crimes, including first-degree and second-degree rape, sodomy, and both first-degree and second-degree sexual abuse. Investigators initiated the case on January 11 after receiving a report about the sexual abuse of a minor. Shortly thereafter, Blacklidge was placed on administrative leave.
Spanish Fort Police Department reported the charges and noted Blacklidge’s work involved investigating child exploitation and educating the public about crimes against children, making the allegations particularly concerning.
Prosecution Details
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced his office would prosecute the case. The Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office had to step aside because Blacklidge is involved in other cases as a witness. Marshall emphasized the troubling nature of the allegations, given Blacklidge’s professional responsibilities.
“He was directly involved in child exploitation cases,” Marshall said. “It’s profoundly disappointing and frankly disgusting to stand here today and tell you that we’ve charged him with facts consistent with what his professional responsibility was.”
Victim’s Courage
Spanish Fort Police Chief John Barber lauded the bravery of the victim who came forward, recognizing the courage required to report such crimes.
Current Status
Authorities confirm one known victim, with no evidence of additional victims. Blacklidge turned himself in on September 5, post-indictment. If released on bond, conditions include electronic monitoring, home confinement, and no contact with the victim or minors.
A Homeland Security Investigations spokesperson declined to comment on the ongoing investigation. The case remains active, with legal proceedings continuing.
