President Donald Trump plans to honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks with a ceremony at the Pentagon on Friday. This event will pay tribute to the victims and first responders who lost their lives on that tragic day.
White House principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly shared that Trump has spoken about his personal experiences on September 11, 2001. As a New Yorker, he was profoundly affected by the day’s events. On this anniversary, he aims to remember those who perished, honor their families, and acknowledge the courage of the first responders.
Trump will participate in a remembrance ceremony at the Pentagon. Vice President JD Vance will pay respects at the World Trade Center site in New York. Officials will also be present in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, ensuring representation at all key locations associated with the attacks.
In New York, Vance will join former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani in a ceremony. Last year, Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended a commemoration at the Pentagon and issued a Patriot Day proclamation, urging flags to fly at half-staff. They also attended a Yankees-Tigers game that honored the victims.
During his presidency, Trump marked 9/11 anniversaries at different memorials. He attended events at the Pentagon in 2017 and 2019, and at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville in 2018 and 2020. Trump, who was a real estate developer in New York in 2001, witnessed the attacks firsthand. He described seeing the explosion at the World Trade Center from his office.
Recently, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation displayed a 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center’s South Tower at the White House. This beam, part of their “Steel Across America” tour, acts as a traveling memorial, visiting 21 states to honor the victims and first responders of 9/11.
