Celebrities Contemplate Leaving U.S. Amid Political Climate

Gutfeld’s Critique of Wealthy Democrats

Greg Gutfeld has voiced criticism of wealthy Democrats contemplating living abroad, citing a poll from Breitbart that indicates 55% of them feel inclined to do so. He argues that these financially independent individuals can easily relocate overseas while maintaining ties to America. However, Gutfeld points out that most Americans do not have this privilege, as they face significant barriers to permanent relocation.

Art Garfunkel Joins the Consideration

Art Garfunkel, an 84-year-old musician, has expressed concerns about the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s administration. In an interview with The Guardian, Garfunkel shared his discontent with America’s stance on pressing issues, suggesting he might consider moving. He remarked, “I don’t like America’s position at all.” His concerns encompass climate change, international affairs, and other political matters.

Concerns About Political Decisions

Garfunkel criticized Trump’s order to launch a military campaign leading to the capture of Venezuela’s former President Nicolás Maduro. He questioned the propriety of such actions, asking, “Is this the new rule? To take over a nation and govern it?” Despite this anxiety, he remains hopeful for changes in leadership.

Rising Celebrity Relocation

Other celebrities have also considered or pursued relocation in response to Trump’s presidency. Rosie O’Donnell, comedian and former talk show host, moved to Ireland post-2024 elections. Director James Cameron plans a move to New Zealand and has criticized Trump amid his citizenship process there. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have opted for a more permanent stay in the United Kingdom, citing Trump’s election.

In an August stint as guest host on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” O’Donnell discussed her new residency in Ireland and criticized Trump, labeling him “Mango Mussolini.”

Reaction from Political Strategists

Celebrity relocation threats have piqued Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff’s interest. He notes they tend to provoke skepticism, yet distinguishes Garfunkel’s statements as more of existential alienation rather than political branding. Shroff elaborated, “Garfunkel is expressing a level of alienation from the country he has known,” indicating that this unease is felt widely.

Shroff views Garfunkel’s remarks as a symbolic political statement, reflecting anxiety about America’s future direction and questioning if old rules remain relevant. This sentiment is shared beyond Garfunkel, despite potential political disagreements.
