Judge Rules Against FEMA Staff Cuts by Trump Administration
A federal judge has determined that the Trump administration acted unlawfully in its directive to reduce the workforce of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by 50 percent. This directive included the dismissal of numerous on-call workers responsible for disaster response.
The court criticized the plan, conceived by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), asserting that it seemed to have been devised haphazardly. The judge noted that the plan’s implementation would hinder FEMA’s capability to execute its essential duties, as outlined by legal mandates, during disaster situations.
Photographic evidence of operations at FEMA headquarters in Washington, dated January 24, highlights the critical nature of the agency’s function in managing disaster response effectively.
