Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s School Change for Archie and Lilibet
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently moved their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to a new school in the United Kingdom. This decision came just two days after they started classes at their previous school. Concerns raised by their security team about the commute prompted the change.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex informed Newsweek, “Discussions with the family’s security team about their current arrangements led to the decision.” They expressed gratitude to the teachers and staff for their care and confirmed the decision was not a reflection on the school’s quality.
Heavy traffic and the distance from their home were factors influencing the decision, as reported by HELLO! Magazine. The children enjoyed their first days at the original school, but the daily logistics proved challenging for their private security team. On one occasion, it became difficult for the security vehicles to stay together, raising safety concerns.
Following the change, Archie and Lilibet attended a new school for a taster session. Prince Harry was seen helping Lilibet settle in, and the couple joined local parent groups on WhatsApp, according to HELLO!
“Security remains a significant concern for the Sussexes, especially after returning to the UK from California.”
Since their return in late August, security has been a prominent issue for the family. In 2020, after stepping down from royal duties, Harry and Meghan lost their automatic police protection, leading to a legal challenge. Harry’s challenge was unsuccessful in May 2025, but questions about their security persist with their return.
Meghan Markle has recently received a government-backed security review, the first since they ceased royal duties. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) is assessing the couple’s current security needs. Concurrently, Harry is undergoing a separate risk assessment. The reviews aim to consider the family’s day-to-day arrangements, including their children’s school commute.
The timing aligns with ongoing British authorities’ considerations regarding the couple’s security. This situation coincides with their extended stay in the UK announced in August, aiming for a balance between privacy and public interest.
While the Sussexes have not publicly detailed their reasons for the move, their household and children’s school locations remain private. Nonetheless, their return renews interest in their royal status and relationship with the royal family. The office of King Charles III reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan remain non-working royals, maintaining their HRH styles in abeyance. Security matters are referred to police authorities.
