Kamala Harris Talks 2028 Presidential Run at Detroit Event
Kamala Harris, the former Vice President, recently discussed her potential candidacy for the 2028 presidential election during a talk in Detroit. Speaking with NAACP leaders, Harris stated she has not yet decided on running. She emphasized the importance of focusing on the 2026 midterm elections, asserting, “’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26.”
During the fireside chat, Harris was asked directly about her aspirations for the presidency. She replied, “I have not decided if I’m going to run again,” highlighting her current priority on the midterms. Harris believes addressing immediate political concerns is crucial before considering future campaigns.
Her appearance in Detroit included discussions with Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, NAACP president, and Rev. Dr. Genetta Y. Hatcher. They urged attendees to vote and promoted early and mail-in voting. Harris encouraged voter participation, stating, “When you focus on the thing out there, you trip on the thing over here,” indicating the present elections should take precedence.
Additionally, Harris participated in a roundtable with Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, focusing on Black maternal health and healthcare costs. At the event, she criticized former President Donald Trump’s healthcare strategies and expressed her support for El-Sayed.
Although she remains non-committal about a 2028 campaign, Harris engages in active campaigning for the approaching midterms. Previously, she pursued the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024 following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election. Ultimately, she lost to Trump in that election.
