Craig Carton criticized investigative reporter Pablo Torre over his recent report on Life Surge, a Christian-focused organization. Torre accused the group of using Tim Tebow as part of a predatory business model, encouraging people to invest large sums of money without yielding any return.
Carton recognized Torre as a skilled investigator but rebuked him for linking Tebow to the organization’s alleged misconduct without confirming Tebow’s awareness of the situation. According to Carton, “Tim Tebow doesn’t deserve to be dragged into this unless you’ve got him nailed. If you don’t have him nailed to the cross on this story, you have defamed him. If I’m Tim Tebow, I find that actionable. I find that regrettable.”
Tebow responded by announcing his decision to pause his relationship with Life Surge. He told The Gainesville Sun, “The allegations are extremely serious, and it’s something we take very serious. Our team is investigating, and we’re pausing our relationship until we have more facts.”
Mother Jones, which partnered with Torre for the investigation, noted that Tebow spoke at 20 Life Surge events from 2024 to 2025 and was scheduled for a similar number in 2026. Carton had no quarrel with Torre’s investigation but accused Torre of leveraging Tebow’s name for personal gain.
“You’re using Tim Tebow’s name and popularity to further your own career,” Carton said on The Craig Carton Show. “Whether the story is accurate or not, the allegations may be truthful and require investigation. District attorneys should check if Life Surge is committing predatory fraud under religious pretense.”
Carton emphasized that Tebow’s reputation was put at risk even though the report failed to demonstrate his knowledge or involvement in the alleged actions.
“When you damage the reputation of someone dedicated to service, it’s a perilous path,” Carton stated. “So, you better have your facts straight, Pablo. To toss an allegation and link it to someone’s name? Shame on you.”
