AUSTIN, Texas — Rahm Emanuel, the former U.S. Ambassador, has openly discussed his consideration for a 2028 presidential run. As the election approaches, the Democratic field is becoming increasingly competitive.
In a recent interview at the Texas Tribune Festival, Emanuel emphasized three qualities that differentiate him from other potential candidates: candor, authenticity, and strength.
“Candor, authenticity, and strength,” Emanuel told Fox News Digital.
Emanuel’s experience in Democratic politics is extensive. He has served as a top advisor to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, was a congressman, the mayor of Chicago, and more recently, served as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan under President Biden.
He expresses confidence in his readiness, stating that he “knows what to do on day one” if elected president. Emanuel remarked, “I’m not gonna tell you what you’d like to hear. I’m gonna tell you what you need to know to make some of the tough decisions ahead.” He emphasized the nation’s urgent challenges and the importance of focusing on an inclusive future.
“We don’t have time anymore. We’re at a tipping point in the country. We better think about a future that includes everybody. We don’t have a person to waste or a community to overlook and make the investments that make this country stronger,” he added.
The former ambassador believes his varied governmental experience equips him to start immediately, stating, “We don’t have a day to waste.”
Despite his intentions, Emanuel faces challenges in gaining the Democratic nomination. According to the RealClearPolitics average, he is currently not among the top ten contenders. Former Vice President Kamala Harris leads the group with approximately 25% support among Democratic voters.
California Governor Gavin Newsom follows Harris with 14% support. Newsom recently stated he would not run if Harris were to enter the race. Among those close to Newsom in support are former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff, each holding significant voter support percentages.
