Kenneth Walker III is excelling with the Kansas City Chiefs, showing that the trade from the Seattle Seahawks was a key decision. His presence is clearly benefiting the team.
In just four games, Walker has rushed for 537 yards, leading the NFL by over 100 yards. This total has broken the Chiefs’ franchise record for rushing yards from Week 1 to Week 4, as per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This achievement is notable, especially considering the Chiefs’ history with legendary running backs. Walker, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, has quickly made his mark as a new member of the Kansas City squad.
The last running back to achieve such a feat in the NFL was DeMarco Murray in 2014, with 534 yards. Interestingly, Murray now serves as the Chiefs’ running backs coach; the success is being replicated by his player.
This season, Walker is one to follow as he aims to be the 10th running back in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. He’s on track to challenge Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards in a year. Last season, Walker recorded 1,027 yards, and he’s already over halfway there.
Additionally, Walker has won 14 consecutive games, dating back to November 23 with the Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory last season. The Chiefs maintain a perfect 4–0 record, and Patrick Mahomes is likely to continue utilizing Walker effectively. The Chiefs’ running game could become even more crucial with injuries to wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, who left the recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Walker delivered a standout performance with 22 carries for 177 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s game. His efforts led to setting a new franchise record in his best statistical display of the season.
