Trump’s Social Media Post Sparks Confusion Over Election Locations

President Donald Trump sparked confusion with a social media post on Monday. In a message on Truth Social, he appeared to confuse India with Brazil when praising rapid election results.

Screenshots of the original post circulated online, showing Trump referencing India. The official White House Rapid Response account shared these images widely.

The post now visible on Trump’s Truth Social account refers to Brazil. Newsweek has reached out to the White House for comments on the matter.

Original Post Referenced India

Initial screenshots show a Truth Social post attributed to Trump stating: “125 Million People voted today in the first round of India’s Presidential Election.” The message praised the quick vote count and criticized U.S. election processes.

The White House Rapid Response account shared this version on X, drawing hundreds of thousands of views. The revised post now mentions “Brazil’s Presidential Election.”

No immediate explanation was given for the change. It remains unclear if the original wording was a typo, drafting mistake, or another error. Besides the country name, both versions share similar wording.

Differences Between Brazil and India’s Elections

Brazil conducted the first round of its 2026 presidential election on October 4. Brazilian authorities are known for quick result releases using a fully electronic voting system.

In contrast, India’s president is elected by an electoral college, not by direct popular vote. India’s last presidential election happened in 2022, with the next expected in 2027.

This situation is evolving, and further updates will be provided as more information is available.
